We can’t tell you what its like to live on a boat, but here are many anecdotes from people that do. We want you to enjoy owning a boat and will help you get on the water. One day you can write your own story here…
Our first boat
“When we first started looking into buying a narrowboat it was both an exciting and scary idea. Our friends and family thought we were crazy! Selling our bricks and mortar to live in a boat. But we were determined, so we bought a 60ft narrow boat. The car journey to the marina to collect the boat took 45 minutes, the cruise to our home town took us 6 days. That first journey taught us time goes slowly on a boat, and you have to relax enjoy the scenery and wildlife along the way. ”
Life onboard
“We would get asked how do we manage living on a boat? , how do you wash? What do you do for cooking? Do you have a bed? Is it cold living on a boat? Until we invited them in and they saw a full size shower, Kitchen with granite worktops full size oven and hob, a double bed, central heating and solid fuel stove, Tv and Dvd player everything they would have at home… the first words out of their mouths was WOW I didn’t expect that.”
Special memories
“One Christmas eve we had family on board with us, there was 4 inches of snow on the roof and the canal was frozen so much the swans were walking on it, it was so hot inside with the fire and the central heating ticking over, that we had to open the bow doors to cool it down.
Life-long friends
“We enjoyed everyday on our boat with no regrets, we had lots of good times, seen a lot of towns and cities from a different angles, and lots of happy memories. We have made life long friends from the boating community.”
